  Prologue

As soon as he walked into the bar, Colton knew that it would be a good night. He’d had a long week of dealing with too many angry and upset clients. It was time to alleviate some stress and enjoy himself. As he looked around, he could already see a couple prospects. It wasn’t long before one stood before him carrying a bottle and a couple glasses.

Sliding onto the stool next to him, she introduced herself as Linda and they were soon downing drinks and groping each other. A quick word from him and they headed to his place. As soon as they entered the elevator, clothes started coming loose. By the time the doors slid open to his penthouse, he already had his hand firmly planted between her legs and Linda was panting heavily.

“Oh, Colton, that feels so good. Just like that….”

Dragging her into his suite, Colton finished stripping her clothes off and pinned her against the wall. This was how he liked it. No complications. No emotions. Just hot, mind-blowing sex. Stripping his clothes off, he leaned up against her as she reached around to touch him. Grabbing her hands, he put them back on the wall as he pushed her legs wider apart. She was dripping in anticipation. Well, at least he wouldn’t have to worry about additional foreplay, he thought to himself. Drilling his hardness into her arched body, she looked back as Colton pulled her hair, and she moaned in pleasure. He pumped faster and faster until finally climaxing, collapsing his body against hers as he found his release.

Stepping back, he stripped off the condom and tossed it in the trash as he walked into the bathroom. As he admired himself in the mirror and prepped for bed, he wondered briefly if she even had time to get off. Lately, he didn’t find himself taking the time to make sure. So long as women continued to find him irresistible, he would take what they were offering and not look back. The quintessential bad boy wrapped up in a corporate package. He had it all and he liked his life the way it was.

One-night stands kept things simple. He didn’t need any excess baggage that came with a relationship. In fact, he couldn't remember the last time he had been in one. Was it really back in college? Had he not dated anyone since then?

Stepping out of the bathroom, he found Linda curled up in his bed, ready to fall asleep. This was always the moment when things became awkward for him. No one spent the night. Ever.

Colton’s number one rule when it came to hookups was that no one slept over. There were absolutely no exceptions. As soon as the sex was over, he sent them on their way in a cab. The cab of course, was always paid in full; he wasn't a complete jerk. Sometimes, they were okay with it, and other times they weren't. It didn’t matter to him. It wasn’t as if he was going to see them again.

He looked down at Linda snuggled into his pillow and almost felt sorry for her. Not sorry enough to let her sleep in his bed or stay the night in any capacity, but sorry enough that he felt bad about hurting her feelings.

“Linda, I called a cab for you. You should get dressed so the guy isn't stuck waiting.”

  She sat straight up. “What?”

“Get dressed. The cab will be here shortly.”

“You don't want me to spend the night? I thought we could have breakfast together.”

“Linda, no offense, but I’ve never let a woman stay here before, and I'm not about to start now.”

  “You're kicking me out?”

“Yes. I’d like to go to sleep now, and I do that alone. So, if you would please get up.”

She stared at him for what felt like an eternity and then got dressed in complete silence. He knew he had hurt her, but he didn’t care.

“You know, assholes like you, are usually the ones that end up falling the hardest. I hope you get what you deserve.” She left his place without saying goodbye, and after straightening the bed up, Colton collapsed and went to sleep.

  Chapter 1

Meghan was relaxing outside on the terrace of her new apartment. She had picked this place out specifically due to its tranquility, something she needed more than anything else right now. The past few months had been a struggle for her. Tears formed in her eyes every time she thought of all she had lost. When she thought of Jordan, all the pain and loss slammed into her with an intensity that could bring her to her knees.

Taking a few deep breaths, she willed the pain away. She remembered the breathing exercises she used to do as a professional ballet dancer. First, she needed to center herself and simply be in the moment. She used to have terrible stage fright and her instructor used to calm her down before the curtains opened. It had helped then and it helped now. Meghan could feel the anxiety leaving her body as she forced herself to look at the beauty around her and remember that everything was going to be okay. Time would heal all things, she thought.

Looking around, she couldn’t believe her luck at securing this place. She had spent weeks with her realtor looking at property after property. While Manhattan had its fair share of luxury accommodations, each one was missing something that she couldn’t quite explain. She had almost given up hope when this unit opened up. As a rooftop apartment, the previous owners had put in accordion-style sliding doors that opened the apartment out onto a lush paradise. After seeing the beautiful terrace, she bought it on sight.

Before moving in, she worked with an interior designer who artfully brought her ideas to life. She had done a beautiful job, as the rooftop now had a very Zen-like quality that Meghan found comfort in. She knew she’d end up spending a great deal of time out there. It was the perfect place for her to decide what she wanted out of life now that she was alone again.

Alone again. That wasn’t something Meghan had ever thought about. But now, it was happening. Divorce. She had a hard time believing it was real. Her husband, Jordan, had fought her at first, begging and pleading with her to reconsider. But Meghan would not forgive infidelity.

She would also never be able to erase from her mind what he’d done. She wouldn’t be one of those wives she heard so much about in affluent circles, who forgave their husbands for the sake of holding on to the lifestyle they had grown accustomed to. Meghan didn't care if she lost every penny; she couldn’t stay with an unfaithful man. He didn't love her, and that was the bottom line. She would rather be alone for the rest of her life, than to betray her own sense of self-worth by staying with a man who was unfaithful to her.

He had carried on an affair with their secretary for months, thinking Meghan was stupid enough never to find out. The secretary! Oh, what a cliché he had turned out to be. She had adored her husband, and never imagined he would betray her, let alone with an employee. What did this girl have that she didn't? She certainly was busty with curves to spare, was that all it took?

Meghan was a smart, elegant and beautiful woman. She could have any man in the world and being with her husband had been a dream come true. She’d given up her own life as an accomplished ballet dancer to help Jordan make the best of his career. Together, they had built the software company that they now co-owned. She had loved working alongside her husband and felt that they had made a good team. As their business began to grow, they were able to hire a secretary who was meant to take some of the day-to-day burden off Megh
an, so she could concentrate on helping to build the business. She had no idea that this secretary would ruin their marriage.

While Meghan knew that this new woman was young, she had plenty of experience and was very anxious to please. It wasn’t long before Meghan started seeing a different side to her, though. Particularly when she would parade around the office in next to nothing. She was a little girl, who Meghan should’ve gotten rid of when she had the chance. How she had managed to get her hooks into a man like Jordan was still a mystery to Meghan. He was way out of her league, but men were weak when it came to sex. In all the time that they were together, Meghan had worshipped the ground he walked on, and in return, she had been humiliated by him.

She would never understand why he threw it all away for that girl. What could she possibly offer him that Meghan hadn't already been giving him? They seemed to complete each other from every aspect and they had a fantastic sex life. What more could Jordan want?

Meghan forced herself to stop browbeating. As she kept reminding herself, while yes, she was starting over, now she had the opportunity to do something for herself. Instead of living someone else’s dream, she now had the opportunity to make some of her own. Since Jordan was wealthy, Meghan would be getting a huge settlement that would assure her that she would never need to worry about financial support. She was also entitled to part of the company, but Jordan would have to buy her out because she didn't want a thing to do with it anymore. Jordan wasn't fighting her for anything.

There was a part of him that didn't want the divorce and he certainly had no intention of hurting her further or causing her any more pain. When they first began discussing settlement, he told her that she could have the vacation home, the yacht and his favorite car. His guilt was so thick during the initial discussion that he could barely look her in the eyes. It was at that point that Meghan ran out of the room. She couldn’t bear to look at him without feeling violently ill. It was then that she hired her attorney and instructed him to speak for her on all matters.

Meghan was currently out of a job, and wasn't sure what to do. She could technically still keep her job and work with the company, since legally she owned half of it, but she couldn't imagine being near her ex-husband on a daily basis.

And while her divorce settlement meant that she would never have to work again, she wanted to do something meaningful. Maybe she could go back to dancing; she’d loved it dearly before she had given it up to follow Jordan. At this point in her life, she was too old and out of shape to consider being a professional ballet dancer. And while in many professions, a woman in her late thirties wouldn’t be considered too old, a dancer who didn’t practice and work out regularly, certainly was. Perhaps she could open up her own ballet school, as she certainly had the reputation and skills to do so. She smiled for the first time in a long time at the thought of using her expertise to bring ballet back into her life.

Meghan knew that, no matter what, she had to move on. Jordan was the past, and she couldn't wait to find out who would be in her future. Her friends encouraged her to find a rebound partner. Someone to take her mind off her past and help bring things into perspective. As she contemplated what kind of man she would find next, she couldn’t help but create a bucket list in her head. He had to be handsome, that much she knew. She wanted a little eye candy when she went out on the town. Definitely sexy. Perhaps someone a bit dominant who would take what he wanted. While Jordan was indeed handsome, he was always so calm. Maybe now was a good time for some fire and spice.

As she daydreamed, she thought about someone that she could connect with in a raw, sexual way. Someone who wasn’t afraid to go after what he wanted. And maybe that it would be her. Where would it happen? At the thought of being swept off her feet, she could feel herself growing aroused. She loved that tingling sensation and decided to indulge her fantasy.

She slowly lifted the edges of her skirt until she could see her panties. She slid her hand inside them and felt how moist they had become. That excited her even more. She began to rub her clit slowly, imagining what her new man would look like. She could picture him using his tongue on her clit, sucking it hard, making her beg for more. She rubbed herself harder; wishing that his cock would take away that ache inside her. Meghan fantasized about what this man would look like naked, and pictured herself sucking him to climax as he bucked beneath her.

  Oh fuck, Meghan, don’t stop!

Meghan moaned in pleasure as she rubbed her clit while inserting a finger inside her. She began to breathe heavily. Oh, how she wished he were there now to plunge inside her, to rock her hard. She would spread her legs eagerly for him. She imagined his tongue entering her opening and she lost control. She brought herself to release, screaming in pleasure.

Smiling to herself, Meghan enjoyed the after effects of her orgasm. It had been a while since she’d been able to bring herself to climax on her own. She cleaned herself up with the napkins sitting on the table and sat there in her lounger as her breathing returned to normal. She felt calm and satisfied. Now she would be able to meet with her divorce attorney without any additional angst. Up until now, they had only communicated by phone, text and email, as she’d been unable to face her ex or their respective attorneys without falling apart. Now she would be able to go into Colton Pierce’s office calm, her need satisfied… for the moment. Meghan picked up her breakfast plate and teacup and headed back inside her apartment.

  Chapter 2

The sun was shining bright as Meghan was escorted out of the limo, and into the building that occupied Colton Pierce’s office. He had an excellent reputation as a lawyer, but also had a serious reputation of a ladies man. He was, quite literally, the talk of the town in that regard, and while Meghan wasn’t sure why his reputation disappointed her, she needed his skills as a lawyer and he had been more than accommodating when she had refused to meet with him face to face. But today, there were papers to sign. She walked into the building with a regal elegance to her step, and informed his secretary that she had arrived. It wasn't long before Colton came out personally, to escort her back to his office. As they passed the desk, she noticed the secretary watching him and she wondered if they were sleeping together. Certainly, he was a handsome man, and Meghan immediately noticed his startling blue eyes, which took you by surprise. He also was tall and muscular, which Meghan loved. Hmm, so far, he was matching the man on her bucket list.

His office wasn’t what she expected. It was a massive room with a large imposing desk, but there were no chairs across from it for clients to sit in. Filling up much of the room were two over-sized Chesterfield sofas facing each other. Ushering her to one, he sat across from her and crossed his legs.

“It’s nice to finally meet you face to face, Meghan. How are you doing, today?”

She smiled warmly. “I think it's been a good day so far, thank you.”

Considering she had already fucked his equivalent in her mind, it was already a good day indeed. Wow, if he only knew.

“Well, I assure you that this will be all over soon. We’re almost finished settling things with your soon to be ex-husband. We will need to have a few more meetings over the course of a few weeks and then we will be done. You won't have to see me again and you can move on with your life.” Something flickered across his face just then that Meghan couldn't quite read.

“Is something the matter?” she asked.

“If I can be candid for a moment, Meghan, I think that your husband is a fool.”

His words caught her by surprise and she laughed. “I couldn't agree with you more.”

He opened up her file and took out some papers. He handed them over to her and she scanned them. It was the settlement they were dealing with today, not the actual divorce. She sighed. The whole process was exhausting and she longed for the day when it would all be over with.

  “Are you okay?”

“Yes, of course. We’ve only just started and I’m already tired of the papers, tired of seeing his name, a name tha
t is no longer mine.” She laughed. “I know it sounds silly, but I never realized that it's the little things I don't want to lose.”

Colton stared back at her concern etched in his face. “Meghan, we can stop everything, your husband didn’t want the divorce. If you are interested, I can speak with opposing counsel and try to work out a reconciliation.”

“Oh, please, don't let my ramblings get the best of me. I deserve better than him now.”

Colton smiled and Meghan took a moment to appreciate how handsome he was. It had been awhile since she tuned in to her attraction to another man. Colton looked at her intensely and she felt something stir inside her. It had been awhile since she had felt that kind of longing. She remembered how she had touched herself earlier that day thinking of her imaginary lover and her body began to warm. She tried to shake out of those thoughts.

  “Well, where do I sign?”

Colton got up to sit beside her on the sofa. As he went through the paperwork with her, the heat of Colton's leg radiated beside hers. Meghan looked up at him as he sifted through the papers. God, he’s cute, Meghan said to herself.
